FanTAstic Training
Dawn Marshall from First Base and Tracy Jones from Hampden House have just completed another successful year of training for Teaching Assistants in schools. The FanTAstic training course offers training at two levels - level one, a two day course for staff new to schools, and level two - two and a half day course for more experienced staff across the key stages. Both levels cover theories of and how to plan ways to support children in school with social and emotional difficulties.
This year courses were run in Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and Needham market and the feedback from those who attended was very positive, particularly with developing understanding and planning to help children in schools.
We plan to run the course centrally in the next school year and this will be at the new conference centre located in the Priory school, Bury St Edmunds.
The course if free to all schools this year and the dates are on the right hand side for each level:

After the success of our Play, Stay and Take away sessions, Samm and Alex are now working on a exciting new project to help parents and children learn through fun activities at home.
The aims of this is to give parents confidence to try different activities at home that promote quality time and sharing experiences, whilst gaining an understanding of how their child learns. Parents will be offered a range of activities to try at home over 6/8 weeks. They will collect the information sheets for each activity and build them into a pack for future fun!
These will be available during the Autumn term. Keep an eye on our website for more information!
The Big Adventure
"We have had two artists to come and work with us for 10 weeks, from Suffolk ArtLink. The children enjoyed the experience and together worked on a theme about the rainforests.
Liz worked with the children to make a tree from willow by weaving which we then made leaves to stick on. We also made masks of animals we might find in the rain forest, and insects. The insects were made using newspaper which was scrunched into a shape and then covered in Modroc. They were painted when dry. Together the children made a big snake which was made of bendy tube covered in Modroc. When it was all finished we put it all together.
Ian is a musician who brought guitars in for the children to have a go at making some music. They made up some songs together. On the final day he brought in a drum kit which the children very much enjoyed taking turns to play a rhythm on. "
